How to Prepare Your Car for Auto Transport

Preparing your vehicle before pickup protects your shipment paperwork and helps the carrier load safely. Start with a walk-around: photograph all four sides, the roof, windshield and wheels in daylight. Keep copies of those photos until delivery is complete.

Remove toll tags, parking passes and loose personal items. Most cargo policies limit or exclude household goods inside the cabin. Leave roughly a quarter tank of fuel, unlock aftermarket alarms if needed, and tell your coordinator about low clearance, oversized tires or inoperable vehicles.

On pickup day, be reachable or authorize someone to sign the bill of lading. Note existing damage on the inspection form before the truck leaves. When you are ready for pricing, request a LoadX quote or review our FAQs.
